The thing about villain redemption arcs is that on one hand, they can be some of the most compelling story lines in a plot, but on the other hand, they can be extremely contrived and stupid. The worst offender of those is the whole “I’m actually a good guy, but I was brainwashed the entire time and am therefore less accountable for my actions”.
